English Language UKS3, Year 1 (Recorded)

A series of webinars suitable for KS3 students aged around 12–14 years old, although they may suit slightly older or younger students depending on ability.

The autumn term is themed around fire and snow, ice, and frozen worlds. We will explore a variety of text types (letters, articles, journal entries, speeches, interviews and reports), as well as audience and purpose during the sessions to develop students' skills. All the sessions are designed to develop students' core understanding and skills and provide them with a solid foundation in English. The units are designed with the Cambridge IGCSE English Language spec in mind, but the skills covered are relevant to all boards and syllabuses.

A variety of supplementary resources will be provided including links to relevant articles, news reports, websites and documentaries to give students the opportunity to broaden their reading and build their knowledge of effective writing as well as extend their vocabulary and their technical skills through the use of accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation. I take a holistic approach to learning and this is reflected in the material, which develops cross-curricular links and explores connections with other subjects including geography, the sciences and history.

Classes are held via Zoom and are ideal for students who prefer not to be on screen/mics as discussion will be via chat and/or for those students who don't wish to complete written homework as there will be no formal marking of work, although optional written tasks are provided. Recordings of all classes are available for students to access to review/consolidate learning. I also have some students who prefer to learn from the recordings rather than attend live sessions.

Sessions cost just £3 each, payable in advance for the ten-week block, so £30 per term.

Classes will be held on Fridays from 11am-12pm.

Dates for the webinars are as follows:

• September 23rd, 30thOctober 7th, 14th, 21st
• **No lesson October 28th - half term break**
• November 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
• December 2nd

Recordings will be made available in Google Classroom shortly after each week's live event, so students are able to review what is covered each each week, together with an optional written task for students to complete if they wish to in their own time.
