A series of ten webinars suitable for lower KS3 students aged around 11–12 years old, although they may suit slightly older or younger students depending on ability.
The theme for this term is magic and mystery, and we'll be looking at a range of fiction and non-fiction text types and explore writing about mysterious places, magical natural phenomena, the art and science of magic and mystery in narratives and poetry. We'll be reading and discussing a variety of texts together, developing understanding of writing for different audiences and purposes and exploring how language can be used to create effects.
The sessions are delivered as webinars over Zoom, no mics/cameras, but there will be lots of opportunities for students to ask questions via chat.
A variety of supplementary resources will be provided including links to relevant articles, news reports, websites and documentaries to give students the opportunity to broaden their reading and build their knowledge of effective writing as well as extend their vocabulary and their technical skills through the use of accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation. The units are designed with the Cambridge IGCSE English Language spec in mind, but the skills covered are relevant to all boards and syllabuses.
I provide an optional written task for students to reinforce their learning. I'm not offering formal marking of written work, but students can share their work with me and/or each other via Classroom or email.
Recordings will be made available in Google Classroom shortly after each week's live event, so students are able to review what is covered each each week, together with an optional written task for students to complete if they wish to in their own time.
